Homicide detective Michael Raines arrives at a crime scene, a beautiful young woman, is lying face down, with a bullet in her back. Raines begins the investigation. The murdered victim haunts his imagination, leaving him with one crucial question, who did this? When Raines discovers the victim's questionable past, he starts to piece together a puzzle that he hopes will lead him to both the killer and some peace of mind.
Raines and his team try to figure out the link between a drowned illegal immigrant and a local politician. Meanwhile, Captain Lewis orders Raines to see a psychiatrist.
When a homeless woman is found murdered in an alley, Raines must investigate. Contrary to what he originally imagines, his investigation leads him into a more complicated case.
A 20-year-old drug dealer is found dead. Raines discovers he was an aspiring comic book illustrator trying to get away from his former life. Meanwhile, Raines is concerned about Charlie’s son and Samantha urges Raines to bring him to see her to about Childhood Traumatic Grief.
When the wife of an old friend of Raines is discovered murdered with an Aryan Nation insignia inscribed on her chest, the case seemed cut and dry. However, as Raines digs deeper into the victim's past, he discovers a disturbing web of lies, cover-ups and misguided good intentions.
Raines is troubled that he is having hallucinatory conversations with his murder case victims, and is especially disturbed during the investigation of a murder and rape of a ten-year-old girl. Meanwhile, Raines is making progress in his therapy sessions with Dr. Koh.
Raines has to do some major self-reflection when his ex-wife Sarah convinces him and Captain Lewis that her husband's death was not an accident.
