Season 4,  Episode 14

Episode Description

Originally Aired: May 08, 2008

IN a flashback to the 50's, a teenage girl named Emily runs outside to meet her older boyfriend and is hit by a speeding car. At the hospital, Emily tells the doctors she is pregnant and gives birth to a boy she names John. On the island, Ben, Hugo, and Locke are looking for Jacob's cabin. On the freighter, Keamy beats Michael after realizing he was responsible for giving Ben his information. He tries to shoot him but the gun jams. Locke wakes up and sees Horace Goodspeed, a Dharma member who has been dead for 12 years, chopping down trees in the jungle. Horace tells Locke that he needs to find him if he wants to find Jacob. Locke wakes up again, and realizes it was a dream. In a flash, Emily wants to give baby John up for adoption. Lurking outside the hospital window is Richard Alpert, still unchanged by time. Back on the island, Locke takes Hugo to see the giant pit of murdered Dharma bodies. In a flash, a six-year-old John Locke with his adopted family is visited by Richard Alpert, who says he wants to test John to see if he belongs in his school for special children. When John fails the test, Alpert quickly exits, visibly upset. On the island, Locke digs through the Dharma bodies and finds Horace, who has the map to a cabin in his pocket. On the freighter, Captain Gault worries that Keamy is suffering from the sickness that has taken over other members of the crew. Keamy steals the Gault's key and finds Widmore's documents that show exactly where Ben is going. Keamy tells Gault he wants to torch the whole island. Gault secretly tells Sayid and Desmond they should hide, but they want a boat to rescue their friends. Gault agrees to help them. In a flash, a teen-aged John is invited by Mittelos Bioscience, headed by Richard Alpert, to go to a special science camp in Portland. John refuses, not wanting to be special and stand out from the other kids who torment him. On the freighter, Michael tells Lapidus that he shouldn't fly Keamy back to the island. Meanwhile, Gault gives Desmond and Sayid their boat, and Sayid heads to the island on the special coordinates. In a flash, adult John is visted by Matthew Abaddon while in physical therapy for his crushed spine. Abaddon suggests John go on a walkabout. The freighter crew is confused as to why they received a morse code message saying the doctor washed up on the beach with his throat slit, when the doctor is with them, alive and well. A minute later, Keamy slits the doctor's throat after Lapidus refuses to fly him back to the island. Gault tells Keamy he's not going anywhere, but then Keamy kills him too. Lapidus agrees to fly Keamy, but prepares a backpack with a SAT phone. On the beach, the survivors are watching the helicopter pass over them when the backpack with the phone tumbles out. Jack thinks they should use the phone to follow the chopper. In the jungle, Locke, Ben, and Hugo have found the cabin. Ben tells Locke he can go in alone. Locke goes in and sees Christian Shepard, who says that he's not Jacob, but he can speak on his behalf. Christian asks if Locke knows why he's there. Locke thinks he's there because he was chosen to be, which Christian confirms is correct. Locke turns and sees Claire sitting in the cabin as well, calm and smiling. Locke is shocked by this, but the one thing he wants to know is how he can save the island. A minute later, Locke walks out of the cabin and tells Ben that Jacob wants them to move the island.
